— Who we train

Do you recognize yourself in any of these situations?

Finance Academy is designed for business owners and teams who want to build their skills in their company's finances without committing to a long program. Short, actionable modules, grounded in the Luxembourg context.

  • 01

I run a business without a finance background

You're an engineer, lawyer, salesperson, creative, or tradesperson, not a trained finance professional. You still have to make number-driven decisions every week. We give you the bearings to read your figures and hold your own in bank meetings without being intimidated.

  • 02

Train my finance team on advanced topics

You have an in-house accountant or a management controller who has the basics down but needs to go deeper on certain topics: Luxembourg VAT, corporate income tax, subscription tax, indexation. We train your team with practical cases drawn from our day-to-day firm work.

  • 03

Prepare for a crucial bank meeting

You have a loan application to defend, and you know the bank will challenge your numbers. You have neither the time nor the desire to learn the vocabulary in the middle of the meeting. We give you the right instincts in half a day.

  • 04

I have to read financials without being a finance person

You work in HR, sales, operations, or project management, and you deal with budgets, income statements, and dashboards. We teach you how to read them quickly and well, without turning you into an accountant.

  • 05

I want to know where I'm making money and where I'm losing it

Your accountant produces your accounts, but you don't know how to analyze your profitability by customer, product, or activity. You have the numbers, without knowing how to read your margin. We give you the tools to do it yourself.

  • 06

I'm creating my company and want to understand the basics

You're launching your business in Luxembourg and you don't yet have the finance reflex. You want to understand your future income statement, your VAT, your direct taxation, before discovering the bill at the very end.

— The Finance Academy catalog

Six foundational topics,
calibrated for Luxembourg.

Each module lasts 3 to 4 hours, an actionable half-day, not a full-day tunnel. Led by our practitioners who apply these topics day to day in their financial assistance engagements.

  • 01 3 H

    Non-financial business owner

Reading and understanding your annual accounts

The balance sheet, the income statement, and the notes are not abstract objects. Once you've acquired the right reading framework, they tell a clear story about your business. We give you that framework, with the specifics of the Luxembourg PCN chart of accounts.

    • Balance sheet structure and logic: assets, liabilities, equity
    • Reading the income statement: income, expenses, successive results
    • Key benchmarks: gross margin, EBITDA, working capital, structure ratios
    • Specifics of the Luxembourg PCN and signals to watch for
    • Practical case: annotated analysis of a real anonymized balance sheet
  • 02 4 H

    Business owner + in-house accountant

Managing cash flow day to day

Cash flow is the lifeblood of a business. Many profitable SMEs fail for lack of visibility into their cash. We teach you to put in place the simple tools to steer yours, without sophisticated software.

    • Difference between profitability and cash flow (and why it's crucial)
    • Building a rolling 12-week cash flow forecast
    • Working capital analysis and action levers
    • Customer payment reminders: approach, timing, tools
    • Practical case: simulation of an SME under cash flow pressure
  • 03 4 H

    Business owner + in-house finance

Luxembourg direct taxation: corporate income tax, municipal business tax, subscription tax

Luxembourg direct taxation has its rules, its pitfalls and its opportunities. We run through the taxes that affect an SME: corporate income tax, municipal business tax, subscription tax, and the main legitimate optimization mechanisms.

    • Corporate income tax (IRC): tax base, rate, calculation
    • Municipal business tax (ICC): variations by municipality
    • Subscription tax and net wealth tax
    • Parent-subsidiary regime, withholding tax: the essentials
    • Practical case: tax simulation of a SARL over 3 representative years
  • 04 3 H

    In-house accountant + finance

    Luxembourg VAT: rules, filings, pitfalls

Luxembourg VAT looks simple on the surface but is actually full of traps — especially for businesses with cross-border operations (intra-EU B2B, electronic services, neighboring France and Belgium). We untangle the essentials.

    • Luxembourg VAT rates and their application by sector
    • Intra-EU VAT: reverse charge, B2B and B2C supplies
    • Electronic services and OSS / IOSS rules
    • Schedule and formats of filings (monthly, quarterly)
    • Common mistakes and how to avoid them
  • 05 4 H

    Business owner + co-founder

Build and defend a bank-ready business plan

A business plan isn't about making the company look good, it's about convincing the bank. We give you the structure Luxembourg bankers expect, the key figures they weigh, and the questions you need to be able to answer.

    • Expected structure of a Luxembourg bank business plan
    • Building a 3-5 year forecast: assumptions, costing
    • Cash flow plan and financing plan
    • Metrics the bank looks at first (DSCR, LTV, equity)
    • Practical case: preparing for the bank meeting and typical questions
  • 06 3 H

    Finance + business owner

Profitability and margin analysis by business line

Your revenue is growing, but you don't know which customers, products, or activities are truly profitable. We teach you how to build a simple, actionable profitability analysis, without heavy BI software.

    • Difference between gross margin, contribution margin and net margin
    • Analysis by client, by product, by business segment
    • Building a simplified analytical income statement
    • Identifying fixed vs variable costs and their levers
    • Practical case: profitability analysis of a multi-service SME

  1. 01

    Day 1 Advena + You 20-30 min

A quick phone or video call to understand your context: who we're training, on which topics, what starting level, and what expectations. Free, no commitment.

  3. 03

5 to 10 days before Advena + You

    We prepare the custom session

Once the quote is approved, we tailor the program to your context: your industry, your maturity, your real cases if you'd like to bring them. You receive the course materials beforehand.

  4. 04

3 to 4 hours Advena (dedicated trainer)

    We run the training

A structured half-day: presentation of the concepts, hands-on cases, discussion with the group, open questions. The trainer is an Advena practitioner, not an academic instructor, applying these topics day to day across our engagements.

  5. 05

30 days later Advena + You

We stay available after the session

The training doesn't end when the session does. You keep access to the course materials and the video replay (video calls only) for 30 days, and you receive your certificate of attendance within 5 business days.

— Our pricing commitment

Fixed package per session. No hidden fees.

The vast majority of professional training courses bill by the trainer-day or in an opaque package ("5-day cycle", "premium package"). Visitors never have any idea of the real cost before the quote. At Finance Academy, we publish the rate. You know from the moment you arrive what you'll pay.

Published rate, not opaque

The starting rate for each format is shown on this page. You know from the outset what a session will cost you, down to the cost per participant. No obscure packages, no surprise quotes.

Package + cost per person

Our pricing is binary: a package covering the session (room, trainer, preparation) and a cost per participant covering materials and lunch where applicable. You work out your own total quote, no calculator needed.

No mandatory package

Each module is chosen independently. You take one session or several, depending on your needs. If you want to combine several topics into a single track, the Custom format is designed for exactly that.

What sets us apart.

Conventional training

  • On quote, opaque until you order
  • Package or trainer-day, not very modular
  • Often 1 full day (8 h)
  • Academic instructor or generalist consultant
  • Generic pitch transposed from another market
  • Post-training support often nonexistent

Finance Academy

  • Rate published right on this page
  • Fixed package + cost per participant
  • 3 to 4 hrs, an actionable half-day
  • An Advena practitioner who applies the subject every day
  • Cases, references, and examples 100% LU
  • 30 days of access to resources and questions

— What sets us apart

Finance training for small and mid-sized businesses, rooted in Luxembourg.

Most finance training available in Luxembourg comes from France or Belgium with a local veneer. Finance Academy is designed here, for the specifics of the Luxembourg market: taxation, company law, indexation, and the banking ecosystem.

  • Actionable half-day, not a full-day slog

Our modules run 3 to 4 hours. That's deliberate: a small-business owner can't block out an entire day. A well-built half-day with hands-on cases delivers more value than a diluted full day. You leave having mastered one topic, not feeling you skimmed six.

  • Led by our hands-on practitioners

Our trainers are the same people who keep our clients' books. When we run training on Luxembourg VAT, it is based on the cases we handle every month for our clients. No abstract, theoretical training: real situations, told concretely.

  • 100 % Luxembourg, no off-the-shelf content

All references — tax, legal, banking, and social security — are Luxembourg-specific. No cases borrowed from other markets with a local veneer. Indexation, subscription tax, ICC, CCSS, RCS, OSS: the vocabulary and the figures are the ones you will actually encounter in your day-to-day.

  • Published rate, no opaque package

Our rate is shown on this page. You know what a session costs the moment you arrive, down to the cost per participant. No "premium track," no "expert certification" at 5,000 €. A half-day of learning, a fair price, a clear deliverable.

— FAQ · Finance Academy

The real questions
before booking a session.

  • Does Finance Academy issue a recognized certification?

No. Finance Academy is a hands-on training service, not a degree program. At the end of each session, you receive a certificate of attendance, useful for your internal records or for the OPCO if applicable, but it is not an official diploma, nor an OEC continuing-education credit. Our goal is to build your concrete skills, not to award you a title.

  • Who leads the sessions?

Sessions are led by Advena practitioners who apply these topics daily in their firm engagements. Depending on the topic, the lead trainer is one of Advena's partners, sometimes supported by a team member. The trainer is announced when the quote is issued, not discovered on the day.

  • Why modules of only 3-4 hours?

Because a well-built half-day beats a watered-down full day. Our clients are business owners and teams at Luxembourg small and mid-sized businesses who can't set aside 8 hours straight. We condense the essentials, concepts, hands-on cases, discussion, into a format that holds up. If you want to go deeper, you take a second module, or move to a Custom format.

  • How much does a session actually cost?

Our pricing is transparent: a package per session (200 € by video call, 300 € in person) plus a cost per participant (50 € by video call, 80 € in person). So for an At Advena session with 6 people, the total is 300 + 6 × 80 = 780 € excl. VAT. The math is simple, with no surprises. The Custom format is handled by quote based on the program.

  • Can you tailor the content to my industry?

Yes, it's actually the norm. Once the quote is approved, we tailor the program to your context: industry examples, regulatory references applicable to your business, real cases you share with us if you'd like. For very heavy customizations that change the very nature of the module, the Custom format is a better fit.

  • Can my teams review the session afterward?

By video call: yes, the replay is included for 30 days. Your participants can rewatch the session at their own pace. In person (at Advena or on site): no video replay, but the PDF course materials are provided to each participant and remain usable without limit. You can also reach out to us by email with follow-up questions for 30 days after the session.

  • How is this different from OEC continuing education?

Finance Academy is not listed in the mandatory continuing education catalog of the Order of Chartered Accountants. If you are registered with the OEC and looking to validate your continuing education hours, Finance Academy will not allow you to do so as it stands. Our sessions are designed for small business and SME owners and their teams — not for the regulated OEC audience.

  • How many participants can we enroll?

By video call: 1 to 10 participants per session (beyond that, interactivity drops). At Advena: 4 to 12 participants (room capacity). On site: 6 to 20 participants (depending on your premises). Custom: depending on the program. If you have more than 20 people to train, we offer either several parallel sessions or a Custom format designed for large teams.

  • Can a session be arranged for a single participant?

Yes, in video-call format only. The other formats (At Advena, On-site) aren't cost-effective with 1 participant, and we politely decline. With 1 participant by video call, the rate stays at 200 + 50 = 250 € excl. VAT for the session, which is competitive vs. one-on-one coaching. For highly individualized training, the Custom format may also be a good fit.

  • How much lead time between the request and the session?

Varies by format. Video call: 5 business days minimum (subject to trainer availability). In person at Advena or On site: 10 business days minimum. Custom: 15 to 30 days depending on the complexity of the program. If you have a very urgent need (a bank meeting in 3 days, for example), contact us directly and we'll work it out one on one.

  • How does Finance Academy connect with your other services?

Finance Academy trains your team to understand and apply financial, tax and accounting matters. If instead you are looking to delegate your bookkeeping (entries, financial statements, tax returns, payroll), that is what our Accounting firm service is for. The two services are complementary: training makes your teams self-sufficient, the accounting firm takes care of your books day to day.
